Thoughts on Moria - Better Late Than Never

Post  Fafnir Hreidmarson on Thu Jan 22, 2009 10:28 am

Got into Moria for the first time yesterday and I like.

Rather than a Lord of the Rings memory, it reminded me of the ancient PC game - Ultima Underworld, the same sort of oppressive feeling and anticipation of what's around the next corner.

Nice surprise seeing a hobbit battling beetles in the distance, then getting closer and seeing Rosie. Random meetings like that make the kinship fun.

Must admit that I've never been overly fond of it.

One of my main gripes is that even when you hit max level, most of the denizens of Moria still want to eat you for breakfast being less than 9 levels below you.

Gets very frustrating after a while and you end up having to pay for goats to take you everywhere.

My second biggest issue is the lack of daylight. I really enjoy the day/night cycles.
After a while the constant gloom becomes very depressing.

Overall the expansion is well implemented but I'm more looking forward to the next expansion being outdoors. Might have finally got through all this content in another 18 months or so.

Thinking back to before Moria, Angmar was horrible for getting from mid-40's up. Many people got bored and gave up.

I suspect Moria and Eregion is designed to make 50 to 60 a bit more interesting for solo play. The next couple of free updates should hopefully fix things.

That's such a wierd feeling when you get vertigo looking over the edge.

You know that it's well implemented when you can feel your stomach rising as you are falling to your doom...

I get vertigo going down stairs, by foot, or goat...Crazy architecture. Haven't accidentally fallen off any bridges yet, though there was one deliberate plummet, complete with a "None shall pass!" and Rem playing the balrog role - not that convincingly I might add.... That was fun.

Some things just HAVE to be done..... Wink

This was an embarassing stand on the edge, look around with the camera and forget which way you're facing before moving forward.

I have to say, I completely love the fact that my stomach lurches everytime I inadvertantly plunge to my doom...
