NUIN GILIATH KINSHIP - CODE OF CONDUCT

Introduction

Nuin Giliath is a role-playing Kinship on the Laurelin (RP) server for Lord of the Rings Online. Our kinship is one of the oldest on the server and was founded by Eriendur, Mellindithil, Eldacal, Dolwen and Hardo in the first few days of LOTRO going live.
During it's time, Eriendur, Alethea, myself and now Alqua have lead the Kin into areas of darkness to bring light and defeat to the Servants of the Shadow. (If I'm honest it's probably about 70% of the time - we do sometime come off worse!)

As a kinship we aim to provide a friendly group with light Role Playing. We can support characters of all levels and game playing styles, from casual players to regular raiding players.

I am not a huge fan of rules, however any group of people works best with a set of guidelines so they don't all start upsetting each other. Smile

Please respect these guidelines as they will help to maintain a smooth running kinship.

1) Chat Behaviour

As Laurelin is a Role Playing server, kin members are expected to play in character as much as possible, especially on public channels such as Kinship, Fellowship, Raid and Say chat channels. OOC chat should be kept to a minimum, and surrounded by double brackets when it is used.

Leet speak (incomprehensible abbreviated mobile text speak - for the more mature players amongst us) is not allowed - e.g. "CU L8R M8".

As the communication is text based the occasional smiley can be useful to add emphasis to the intent of the message. Please note smileys can be taken as Leet Speak by some, so please be careful in public channels or groups with non-kin.

Please read the Guidelines provided by Codemasters for playing on an RP Server:

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188857

(unfortunately Codemasters do have rules so obey them or run the risk of a ban)

A custom chat channel called NGRAID has been setup for kin members who are in a Raid and want to be able to chat to each other without the rest of the raid knowing.
Please note - this channel is OCC, if you don't want to read it, either move to another tab or switch the channel off.

Details on Nuin Giliath custom channels are given in the Private Quarters Forum for Nuin Giliath members.

If you need to share information that contains spoilers, please send it via a tell to the player requesting it, and don't broadcast it on the kin channel openly.

In circumstances where you know real life names, their use in an open channel is not allowed, even if you are the only people on that channel at that time.

2. Crafting and item sharing

We believe in share and share alike - if someone needs something you have and don't need, pass it on to them. What goes around comes around, and by doing so we enrich the Kinship as a whole.

Charging kin for services is not recommended behaviour - you are not expected to bankrupt yourself to help out however. It is acceptable to request that special or rare ingredients be provided or funded.

We do not tolerate characters only being around to collect items from others to sell in the AH. Officers will contact people if this is thought to be happening and kick if necessary.
In a worse case scenario this behaviour is exhibited by Gold Sellers which is why we feel it is a serious matter.

3. Behaviour towards other kin

People are expected to treat each other with mutual respect. Gratuitous insults or backbiting against other members (or even against other people on the server in general) is strongly discouraged.

4. Inactive Kin

While it's appreciated people can be taking a break we've come up with guidelines for keeping the list up to date.

Anyone inactive for an extended period of time (around 60 days) with no reason known will be demoted to Recruit status.
There will be a post to this forum to see if anyone knows of a reason for the inactivity - after around 100 days if there is no information the Officers will decide whether to kick the inactive recruit.
This is a last resort - if someone is known to be taking a long break please let us know.

5. Alt Characters

To manage the kin list a bit better and see how many members we really have, we make all Alts Recruit status. There have been a few suggestions for a method of distinguishing alts and mains - this seemed the fairest.
It is recommended to update the kinlist player note of the alt character to indicate who the main character is.

6. Kinship funds

Until such time the developers add a kinship bank account, the leader will keep shared kinship funds. A post is on the forums and is updated when the situation changes. Donations can be mailed to Alqua, it is understood that different characters have different abilities to generate money so all donations are voluntary.

The money is primarily for upkeep of the Kin House, if you do pay any upkeep for the Kinhouse please mail for it to be added as a donation. If donations become regular there may be facilities to assist with Houses and Horses for Kin.

7. Kinship chests and house

Chests are only open to full members of the kin, recruits do not have access. Items in the chests are for everyone to use, however if you need a large quantity of something, then let an officer know. If you're playing an alt character a lot and would like access to the chests send a message to one of the Officers. Alts can be added as named individuals.

We have had an occasion where around 90 pots of dye and several other expensive items were taken in one go.

House decoration is open to all. (I do need to get it into people's heads that the red elven furniture is just tacky - good dwarf tables are what's needed!)

8. Recruiting new kin

It is recommended that prospective new kin meet somewhere for a chat before inviting, experience has proven that Ad Hoc invites do not work well.

An exception regarding the meeting can be made where the prospective recruit is someone who is well known to Nuin Giliath already through regular group adventures.

All new people start out as recruits for a period of time - during the recruit time the do not have access to kin chests. The length of time as a recruit depends but is usually no more than a month (unless the officers forget to promote - in that case sorry!).

The main reason for this is a double check that the new person is not some random thief type who will raid the Kin chests and leave.

Please ask the Officers if you have any questions or suggestions for additions to these guidlines. cheers cheers cheers cheers
